Golf Cart Guide to Halloween Safety

October 31, 2016. Chances are that on Halloween your golf cart will be used to shuttle a few pint-sized trick-or-treaters from house to house. That’s a smart decision by the way. It’s smart for several reasons:

  • Easy to navigate the streets and crowds safely
  • A golf cart is easier for kids to get in and out of
  • It is simply more fun to drive a golf cart around your neighborhood

Considering the streets will be busy with many other adults and trick-or-treaters, there will be plenty to be cautious about on your pre-planned candy route. Here are some Golf Cart Safety Tips for your Halloween trip to be mindful of while out and about.

Test to make sure the accelerator pedal, brake pedal, headlights and taillights are in good working order.

  • Given that the streets will have pedestrian traffic, you will be at ease knowing you can make an emergency stop at any moment. Your brakes will also get a lot of action going from house to house.

  • Since the daylight will be at a minimum, it is important to make sure the headlights and taillights are functioning properly so you can see and be seen.

Remember to make sure the batteries or gas tank are full before you set off.

  • You do not want to be stranded far from home with a cart full of eager trick-or-treaters.

Engage the parking brake and make sure the key is in the “Off” position.

  •  Make sure the golf cart is at a complete stop during candy stops and when the cart is completely vacant.

Add reflectors and a rear grab bar for better visibility and rear passenger safety and stability.

  • Golf cart reflectors are a great way to alert cars and pedestrians of your street presence.

  • The rear grab bar provides an extra handle for rear passengers while in transit.

Try to eliminate cell phone usage while driving.

  • The streets will be busy and your full attention will be required.

Throughout the night, the kids will have their minds on accumulating candy and having a good time with friends. As for the adults, our goals will include making sure the night progresses safely and efficiently. The kids may get all the candy but you will get to take your prized golf cart out for a spin and socialize with the neighbors, it’s what we call a Trip-and-Treat.
